My Desires
A Sonnet by Barry Lawrensen

There’s so much more I need, I want to hold…
New car TV house at the beach more cash
To buy life’s toys, my god I’m getting old!
The years fly by like days gone wry, a flash.

Why can’t I have the things I want to buy?
My neighbor, friends, have so much more I want.
I drool for stuff, fill my garage so high
Show those around my name renowned, to daunt.

‘Twill soon be past my life so short will end.
What will I leave my children and my friends?
Will they remember all I own and spend?
Is this the vital message my life sends?

My treasure earth or more beyond in heav’n
God help me find wealth mercy grace you’ve giv’n.
