When a line divided into two parts using the Golden Ratio, the ratio can be identified mathematically as ((1+√5)/2), which is approximately 1.61803398. This number is called Phi.

Creating a page layout for a 1024 x 768 computer monitor, I chose to make this violet and yellow background image 1000 x 750 pixels. To divide the columns using the Golden Ratio, I divided 1000 by 1.61803398 (Phi), rounding the result to 618 pixels. Using this for the width of the yellow column, 382 pixels remain for the left (violet) column.
