Personal Interests

Personal interests are as varied as my professional interests, ranging from woodworking to world travel. Most of my interests include my family.

It was a delight to live in the Schwarzwald (Black Forest) area of Germany for two years, where my wife and I worked as teachers at a school for missionary kids (MK's), Black Forest Academy.

Because my wife's heritage comes from the Netherlands, we enjoyed a visit together to Amsterdam.

My father was a residential contractor, and though he had already passed away, I inherited some of my fiaterhs interests and abilities that enabled us to build our own home. The only subcontractors hired were for concrete work and furnace/air conditioner installation. My wife's father helped with the rest of the construction, including carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.

This summer we travelled 3000 miles from Iowa to Washington, enjoying a family vacation there with my sister from California.

We had lots of fun, and took a silly picture, too.

I also keep in touch with many of my former students from Black Forest Academy through Facebook. Some of them have visited and left comment on my personal blog.

Recently I wrote a memoir about one of my BFA students, which was published in the print edition and the online edition of Alliance Life magazine. This is a publication of our church denomination, the Christian and Missionary Alliance.
